The CleanEnviro Summit Singapore (CESG) Catalyst is back! Senior Minister of State for Sustainability and the Environment, Dr Amy Khor, opened the event to more than 200 participants including leaders and policy makers in business, government and international institutions. The third edition of CESG Catalyst is themed “Enhancing Sustainable Development in a Pandemic World.”
In her welcome speech, Dr Khor highlighted how the pandemic has presented opportunities to push the global sustainability agenda forward. She also emphasised the need to rethink fundamentals, as governments and their stakeholders work towards a more resilient, clean and green future.
The second plenary started with panellists discussing the critical success factors involved in building systemic preparedness and resilience against public health threats.
Moderated by Ms Gloria Tan, Executive Director of Singapore’s Public Health Council, the panel members comprised Mr Chew Ming Fai, Deputy Chief Executive Officer (Public Health) and Director-General of Public Health of the National Environment Agency; Mr Tony Chooi, President of the Environmental Management Association of Singapore; Ms Lauren Micallef, Oceania Manager of the International Sanitary Supply Association; Mr Joseph Nazareth, Head of Group Health, Safety, Environment and Quality, and Corporate Responsibility at ISS; and Professor Teo Yik Ying, Dean of NUS’ Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health.
The panel exchanged ideas on emergent solutions, business models and productive partnerships, and discussed how the private, public and people sectors can move towards cleaner and healthier cities.
At the recent CleanEnviro Summit Singapore (CESG) Catalyst 2021, EMAS’ President, Mr Tony Chooi, shares insights on how COVID-19 has impacted the cleaning industry – in terms of industry challenges and opportunities; what should the government, industry and the academia do in order to build resilience to support cleaner and healthier cities; and what are some of the professionalisation efforts that we should look at to prepare the industry for the future ahead.
